About
My name is Al Amin, and I make films and photos about people.
I spent half my life in Northern Nigeria, the other half in Malaysia, and now live full-time in Berlin, Germany. That mix of places has broadened my perspective on people and culture, and it shapes my approach to film and photography.
I’m most interested in people — how they move, talk, and connect with each other when they stop thinking about the camera.
My work moves between filmmaking and photography: documentaries, podcasts, interviews and expert-led videos, events, portraits, editorial work, short films, and music videos.
Whether I’m filming a conversation or photographing a room full of people, I’m looking for moments that feel authentic, alive, and specific to that time and place.
I tend to work quietly and collaboratively. On documentary and event work, I like being able to disappear into the background. When I’m working directly with someone, I try to create enough trust that they can stop performing for the camera and simply be present in the moment.
I care a lot about rhythm — how images, words, sound, and small moments come together to feel like one cohesive story rather than just a collection of pretty shots.
Alongside client work, I make personal films and photographs, and I write about identity, relationships, borders, and the creative process.
